Melomakarona
Made with Plain Flour
Ingredients:
Dough
- 1kg Triumph Plain Flour
- 1 Glass of Peanut Oil
- 2 Glasses of Vegetable Butter SPRY
- 1 Glass of Sugar
- 1 Glass of Orange Juice
- 2 Eggs
- Lemon and Orange Zest
- 2 Teaspoons Baking Soda
Syrup
- 1 Glass of Honey
- 3 Cups Sugar
- 3 Glasses of Water
- 1 Cinnamon Stick
Method:
In a sauce pan we add sugar, water, cinnamon and we let them boil for 5 minutes. When the mixture boils we add honey.
Let the syrup set aside to cool down.
Add the peanut oil, SPRY and sugar in the mixer bowl and mix until it becomes fluffy.
Add the eggs until they are absorbed and add the zest.
Dissolve the soda in the orange juice and add to the above mixture.
Then add as much flour as needed without much kneading to have a soft dough.
Shape the melomakarona and bake at 180°Ⅽ until they turn reddish.
Once you take them out of the oven as they are hot, throw them in the cold syrup for 2-3 minutes to absorb.
Drain and sprinkle with ground walnut kernels or almond kernels.
